OPINION POLLS

GOVERNMENT TO EVICT BODA BODA FROM UGANDA CAPITAL KAMPALA

Members of parliament have suggested to chess all boda boda riders from the city in an effort to clean and reduce congestion and to increase security.

However, Ugandans, have mixed reactions concerning this action.

Mr. Daniel Kimeze

This is a wrong time for the government to chase the boda boda riders from the city, we have just come from lockdown and every person is poor. Chasing them from the city would mean ending a person’s chance to make money. Additionally, these people “boda boda riders” pay tax and chasing them away from the city cuts off their chance to pay tax.

Ms. Kadondo Rebecca

It is wrong for the government to chase away boda boda riders from the city, if they lose jobs in the process. They are parents and they will not be able to take care of their families. Most of them are even uneducated and the only way they can make money is through boda boda riding, this job means you need as many people as you can to make a living.

“I think the government should get stages for them, advise them on getting identifications, register them as this will reduce on congestion and the criminal rate in the city as the government alleges” adds Kadondo.

Ms. Nakalule Jane

Boda bodas have done a great work in the city, when you are time ‘bad and you need to reach where you are going in time. Additionally chasing boda boda riders from the city will increase the number of street kids as Men will fail to provide enough for their families. Due to the number of unemployed citizens, anti-government rival groups can emerge thus conflicts and violence. The number of unemployed youth will increase since there will be high job competition outside the city where they are being pushed
